Abrams voted as starting All-Star shortstop, Wood selected as outfield reserve
The Nationals will have two 2026 All-Stars, with CJ Abrams winning the fan vote and James Wood voted in by fellow players
CJ Abrams and James Wood are both All-Stars for the second time. And for the first time, Abrams will start the game.
The Nationals shortstop beat out Dodgers star Mookie Betts in fan voting and will be in the starting lineup July 14 in Philadelphia. He’ll be joined on the NL roster by his longtime teammate, who was selected by fellow players as a reserve in the outfield.
“It’s awesome,” Abrams said. “Me and James go way back to San Diego. And now we’re over here doing our thing. It’s going to be fun.”
Abrams becomes the first Nats position player elected by fans since Bryce Harper, who started the 2018 game in D.C. He’s also the first shortstop in club history to be voted in as an All-Star starter.
