As much as he has to stay focused on what he’s doing on the mound every time he pitches, Foster Griffin can’t help but notice what his teammates are doing at the plate.

“It’s insane, right?” the Nationals left-hander said. “It’s crazy. I feel like every time I go out there for the second inning, third inning, we’re already up. It’s real easy to go out there and keep attacking when you’ve got a lead. It’s unbelievable what these guys have done.”

What these guys have done is solidify themselves as the most-productive lineup in baseball well beyond the halfway point of the season. With Wednesday’s 8-2 win over the Astros in the books, these Nats have now scored an MLB-best 508 runs. They’ve hit an NL-best 132 home runs. They’ve stolen an MLB-best 100 bases.

And they just don’t stop doing it, night in and night out. In their last five wins, the Nationals have scored eight, 10, nine, 12 and eight runs. They’ve hit 18 homers in seven games to begin the month of July. They’ve also twice drawn 10 walks in a game and twice stolen three bases in a game in that span.

“It’s great. It wins ballgames,” shortstop CJ Abrams said. “We get on base, we hit balls hard and we score runs. We’re going to keep that going.”
