TODAY: “Extension talks…fizzled quickly” between Griffin and the Nationals, according to Joel Sherman of the New York Post. Since it isn’t surprising that a long-term deal wasn’t reached, it doesn’t necessarily mean Griffin is any more likely to be trade, especially since the Nats are still considering being deadline buyers to some extent.
Just today I saw that Spencer Nusbaum expects Griffin to be traded. If so this lack of extension would be consistent with today being his last appearance.
Trade Rumors is just a lot of speculation. I personally don't put much credence into a lot of what they post. Interesting to read, but that's about it.
We just signed a bunch of new players from the draft. Filling the minors with new prospects is not our biggest problem. Our biggest problem is for the major league team to learn how to win important games. We should keep this team together, add a couple of key players, and push the players to compete and win.
With a strike of lockout looming for next season, I don’t expect any contract extensions or giving up prospects for a long-shot Wild Card push. These strategies would be out of character for the ownership group in any season, much less one prior to 2027.

They’re using openers when there’s not a good reason to, they are overemphasizing righty lefty matchups even when there’s are reverse splits in play. Littel gave up one single after looking very very sharp when he went to the bullpen last night only to see a mediocre relief pitcher give up the go ahead run (yes the runner was inherited but at first). Ribalta came in to salvage the inning as he often does.
So many relievers have gotten hurt while few starters have. I don’t think they’re getting adequate time to warm up. They seem to walk the first batter faced all too often
I’m looking to get tix to a Cubs game at the park next month - anyone have suggestions for the best way to buy tix, have tix to sell, or expect to be at one or more of the games and want to say hi?
I think it's REALLY important for the Nats to score first today. This is for all intents & purposes a playoff game, with their best pitcher on the mound. And with a rookie against them. Gotta deliver with RISP today too.
