Mark, I’ll be very curious to hear your insights as to how the clubhouse is reacting to the trade news. Must be deflating for to lose an integral part of the lineup/team, but Early is an immediate impact once healthy and I’m wondering how the players see the deal
Although I said the other day that I didn't want them to trade Mead, I will be OK with this if Early is any good. If he is Jake Irvin 2.0 or if he is injured for 2 years, I will not be happy. I like Mead more than House, but the drop off hopefully will not be too much.
You got that right. I get that Mead was popular and productive (I liked him a lot, too), but clearly he was not part of the longterm plans. I am all in on the front office (and the rest of the new guys)!
He could’ve been part of long term plans. Gore could’ve been. CJ hopefully is. Nice if Foster is. At some point you have to draw the line and say, “we are here….lets move forward.” I would have liked them being buyers this year, more so for next season, but also helping with a WC push this year.
I don't think we are "there" yet despite exceeding preseason expectations. There are quite a few young infielder and pitchers coming up in the near future. Either way, I know we both root for the same team to win!
Weird stats from Rochester. Trey Lipscomb has 18 HR and a .837 OPS. Did he bulk up? Riley Adams has 9 HR in 46 games and a .864 OPS. I guess you really can't trust minor league stats. Joey Weimer by the way has a .543 OPS in 36 games.
That's a terrible lineup.
I am not at all sure this is a good lineup.
I'm way more bothered by having to rely on Mikolas for a game with such major implications.
Yes, THAT could be a big problem!
Isn't this pretty much our normal lineup when facing a lefty. It's not like the ones with both Vivas and Tenna in them that I really dislike.
I agree.
No it is not that
Why is Luis Garcia batting 8th?
Left handed pitcher.

Drake had a 5.78 FIP in the PCL this season. They need to jump on this kid early.
At least the bullpen, such as it is, is relatively rested.
I'm not feeling too confident about Mikolas starting. There's a lot at stake in this game
Regardless of who is playing, I am rooting for the NATS TO GET A SERIES WINNING CURLY W TODAY!! GO NATS!!
Brady has (unexpectedly) big cleats to fill in the right hand batter’s box!

The drop-off will be significant.
I hope not. Brady is only 23 and was initially rushed to the bigs. Maybe this coaching and developmental staff can help him fulfill his potential.
There are no stats yet for "hope."
Meanwhile our commenting counterparts in Boston are expecting Mead to turn back into a pumpkin at any moment.
It’s what we do.
my goodness there's a lot of negativity in these early posts.
Mead's clutch hitting and his sharp fielding is in no small part why the Nats are hovering around .500.
For good reasons:))
At this point Early is a big ???

Hopefully Mikolas can get thru the first couple innings & we go from there.
Yes. Be his own effective opener. Quite frankly, I'm glad they've abandoned the opener strategy for the moment, no matter what happens.
We are underway on an 83-degree Sunday afternoon in Navy Yard. Big game!
