The Nats holding their own after the deadline despite what looks like somewhat of a demoralized team just shows they never should have traded those three good players for prospects in the first place... The traded players should have been signed for 3-4 yr contract extensions.
I just saw this too. Really hope this puts CJ in a better position long term and wonder if it could open the door to sign him to an extension. We know there are several shortstops on the way, Seaver King first up. I still think Nunez is best suited as a utility player. In the short run Nunez should be an upgrade defensively at short.
They only kept Abrams at SS to increase his trade value. Once they didn't get a good offer for him, they moved him to where he would be most valuable to the Nationals. This also suggests that they have some desire to extend him.
This team has a tremendous amount of fight. Of course there are some players here who won't be on the team in 2027 and beyond. While I hate to see popular players get traded, I believe the Nats did the right thing. Luis Garcia Jr. was ragged on until this year. Toboni and company forged it was best to trade while his value was the highest of his career. Mead also had a career partial season (too bad he got injured right after the trade). Neither of them figured to be in the teams long-term plans. Foster Griffin clearly wanted to test free agency and I don't blame him at all for that. I wish him well. Abi Ortiz is off to a smoking hot start. The 🐂 🖋 is much improved now and in the future. Like Mark wrote, the offense scored 6 or more runs in all three of the cubbie games.
Time to get on a streak of CURLY Ws and keep the excitement going. GO NATS!! ⚾️⚾️⚾️⚾️⚾️⚾️⚾️⚾️⚾️
No where in your rightly optimistic post is Dylan Crews mentioned. Unless things change fast, I do not think he figures in the Nats future plans. He’ll probably start next season just so the Nats can say they gave him every opportunity. But somewhere in June timeframe next year they’ll cut him loose. All in my opinion, of course.
Trying CJ at second base just read the post. My first thought is wondering how is CJ absorbing this. I would have to think this has been a discussion for a while now behind the scenes with him. My take is that this young man is maturing and sees this as a positive step forward for both him and the team.
Mark Z's post on X: 'CJ Abrams is going to start making the transition to second base, with Nasim Nuñez becoming the primary shortstop. Has talked about for a while, they first broached with Abrams about a week ago and he’s on board with it."
I clearly remember Ryan Zimmerman ceding to Anthony Rendon at third. Played left, ultimately first. Hopefully CJ has a similar, winning is the priority attitude. This team really does seem to have a team over individual vibe.
An interesting lineup approach. House DH, Tena LF, Lile RF. It seems to anticipate the opponent's SP will not go deep.

No, they shouldn't have. The next gen is doing fine, and the changes will just keep on coming
And the sure as hell do not look demoralized to me
YES, both of those!
No kidding! Those guys are gamers, for sure.
You are right. They look moralized. 😎
I assume the Nats tried to extend those 4 players, but that did not work out.
No Soto
He's on the IL - grade 2 left calf strain
BREAKING NEWS: Abrams moving to 2B.
Mark knocked me right off my feet with that announcement
Mike Tyson punch
I take it, early Mike T…

Nunez as a utility player... yup. More than that, and he is exposed. I'd like to see King. He has played well enough to warrant a look-see. I think...
WOW!! The lineups still list him as SS.
From what I saw on X, the move won't happen for at least a few days.
Thought they would wait until the offseason to even try this. Hope CJ handles it well.
Butera spoke to it on the pregame. If did not see, handled with class and respect to and about CJ and said he is on board.

Good for CJ. Very mature decision, best for the team and him long term.

We'll see what happens. One of the cool things about baseball!
There are also a ton of other young talent that I didn't mention -- almost too many to name.
Indeed. The future’s so bright I gotta wear shades.
Sometimes welding goggles!! 😎🐼🌞💯
Any update on Wood?
Hit off a tee today

Getting ready to trade him this winter? No. Preclude to extension.

Employee #11 was a model team mate
Zim couldn't throw anymore at that point, in any case. I still can't believe he didn't win comeback player of the year in '17.
Yeah, I agree!
Oh yeah, we’re going full development mode, CJ to 2B! Excited, feel like this clears the way for a King up soon
To play SS? Not sure they figure him a SS.
Server just hit lead off HR
Seaver served one over the LF wall to leadoff game tonight
"...That group will try to keep it going tonight against 36-year-old Robert Stock, who makes only his sixth career MLB start tonight..."
That jumped out.
Edit: I just checked. Did some time playing in Korea and Mexico.
Wow, big news on CJ.
We are underway on an 80-degree Friday night at Citi Field. CJ Abrams is leading off and still playing shortstop (for now).
And just like that, there goes the no hitter. BRADY HOUSE IS GETTING A TAD HOT!! Followed by DAYLEN LILE! BRING 'EM HOME RUIZ!!
dying quail
Or a duck snort
House is doing much better since he came back.
Not at quality AB at all by Ruiz. one borderline strike the other two not close. a 2 out RBI woulda been sweet!
