Good to give CJ a little bit of a mental break before the switch to 2B. Hopefully he makes a spectacular play there to break himself in, and we can put all the drama in the rearview mirror.

Langford vs Crews might be interesting given their draft order. Langford has hit better but I don’t think he has been great.

peter wood's avatar

I remember hoping the Nats would get Langford in that draft; I could see he could hit better than Crews. To bad that did not happen.

Mark's avatar

I know some forecast Langford as better LT. I would swap them so they each got a change of scenery but that’s not happening. Don’t think Crews is trade-able at this point.

Unfortunately Bally did not have the first inning of the Fredericksburg game on the app this evening. I had been hoping to see how Jojo Gray looked.

nebco66's avatar

I just checked the Fred Nats' boxscore. Their pitcher tonight is Marlon De la Cruz. Go figure.

BassMan's avatar

Jojo was supposed to pitch the 1st inning only. Don't know if that happened.

nebco66's avatar

According to the boxscore, he didn't. I'll check again just to be sure.

nebco66's avatar

He is pitching now (5th inning). I'll keep up with his results and check back here.

1 inning, 2 hits, 1 run, 1 strikeout, 1 wp. 17 pitches, 11 strikes.

4th inning for JG

Tim K's avatar

Got hit around for a run in top of the 5th

Tim K's avatar

Pitching now in 4th

Tim K's avatar

My bad, came in for top of the 5th

Really happy to see JoJo and Herz on rehab assignments. Fingers crossed for Early.

I happened to be in Dallas for a work conference the last time the Nats played there and as ugly as the stadium is from the outside, it’s really impressive inside.

WOW we sure have a lot of ONE DAY MAYBE PITCHERS

We have some payback this series for old Senators fans. Bob Short ripped the heart out of my 11 year old body on September 30, 1971. The events of that evening still sting 55 years later.

The game is described below. NEVER FORGET.

I was 14, but cried like I was 4 and hadn't eaten for days!! Great read! Thanks for posting the link!

I never have forgotten the last 3 weeks of that season when the Senators were slipping away. At least Baseball Bob found Short at an Orioles/Rangers game in 1972 and dumped a beer on him 😁

And that ICONIC photo of the grin on Baseball Bob's face. Priceless.

I remember that night well. Happened to be watching Steve Gilmartin on Channel 7 say "That fink has done it, he's moving the team". Live on air.

BassMan's avatar

Yep, Warner Wolf reacted pretty much the same way.

Mark's avatar

No payback tonight, but thanks for the memories - I think. That was a rough time, just had discovered baseball that year and was a fan of Frank Howard in particular.

I was a freshman in college near Asheville NC that September and had zoned out on the Senators ( we called them Nats back then too) in 1970 after Short made all the terrible trades after a great 1969 season . A friend told me about it a day or two later

BassMan's avatar

Oh yeah...The Eddie Brinkman trade, for a washed up Denny McClain, that was the killer. They shouldn't have traded Ken McMullen either. Ted Williams didn't like either move.

While banging hands with forks and knives on the tables in the dining hall, and chanting CUR-LY W! CUR-LY W! CUR-LY W! I sure am hungry for 1+!! GO NATS!!!

Shawn Brown's avatar

2 hits, a wild pitch, and a strikeout for Gray in his first (only?) inning in Fredericksburg. Fastball was around 93.

And we're underway in Arlington ... Texas, where it's 102 degrees outside but 74 inside Globe Life Field.

CJ on cue with 104 phone double to right field gap

GLH aka NatsFan4Ever's avatar

And nothing to show for it. :(

LEE MCDOWELL's avatar

The RISP problem again.

peter wood's avatar

what is a phone double?

Tim K's avatar

Looked like he had time to make a call

peter wood's avatar

If you say so:)) I'm sorry but "phone double" is utterly ridiculous:))

Tim K's avatar

Loves to watch his handywork

Rangers showing the leather early. Saved a run.

Nice play by Brady House!! Without falling this time!

Sorry hate to say it but right now Dylan Crews is a BIG DISAPPOINTMENT you can get any scrub to field that is not why he was taken at TWO ...TWO could have been ONE but it was TWO and he is so far a waste

Mark Zuckerman's avatar

The good news: Kent is throwing more strikes tonight and getting ahead in the count way more than he did last time out. The bad news: The Rangers are still making him work. Justin Fescue fouled off five straight pitches before finally homering for a 2-0 lead in the second.

CBinDC's avatar

That is because we only have BROKEN pitchers

GLH aka NatsFan4Ever's avatar

Jinxed him! Now missing the plate and walking in a run.

GLH aka NatsFan4Ever's avatar

Okay, all I'm saying is YUCK and PU!!
