Jacob Young in the 5 spot? Someone explain that to me.

That said, until Dylan Crews starts to approximate the hitter we were all promised, this team will not progress as we hope. That and a lot of pitching.

"we were all promised" -- you mean like from all the MLB brass and scouts?

Pretty wild lineup. It's hard for me to take seriously batting Young in front of Lile but Young does have a slightly higher OPS+ so far, according to baseball-reference.com, 102 to 96.

I see it (batting JY above Lile) as BB trying to move CJ up without clustering his lefties and righties so the Giants don’t have a super-easy time matching up out of the bullpen.

I hope Cade's and the coaches' work since his last outing make a big difference today. I also hope for 5 - 8+ runs! GO NATS!!

MLB says Houser has a 1.37 ERS in 6 career games against the Nats, the lowest versus any team that he's made at least three starts against. You know what I have to say about that? He's never faced this lineup with these coaches. I expect that ERA to rise today!

Andrew Alvarez has 27 strikeouts and only 10 walks so far this season in Rochester. He’s pitched 19 innings over 4 appearances, so not quite hitting that 6-or-7-innings mark, but has a WHIP of 1.19. Cayden Wallace is a righty slugging 3b with an OPS of 1.195 in AA. Hits righties well and gets extra bases. That whole lineup is fun to watch, Seaver King-Wallace-Boissiere-Peterson can really make a pitcher work.

I've been following Wallace with great interest. He may force management to make some tough and interesting decisions. Forcing his way up (Rochester)and into DC sooner than later.

YoYo Morales at Rochester is up to .339. They play him at 1b, 3b, and DH.

Spotlight on Abrams:

Batting average 3rd (in all of MLB)

Homers tied for 7th

Rbi 3rd

OB% 2nd

SLG 5th

Very encouraging, and the OBP is a really striking improvement... so get back to us in September when we've had a chance to see CJ after the all star break.

Like should be batting third.

We are not contending yet and it’s early in the season. I’m totally ok with them trying things out to see how it goes. You never know.

What do we know about Lovelady? What is his clubhouse reputation?

And we're underway on a 76-degree Saturday afternoon at Nats Park, where the City Connect hockey jerseys are out in full force.

Win one for the home crowd guys! On a side note, who turned up the volume at Nats Park this year? A bit hard to chat with my friends.

That was a dramatically different inning from Cavalli than the last one we saw from him: 20 pitches, 16 strikes. And most of them were right down the middle of the zone. It worked, cause he recorded a pair of strikeouts in a scoreless frame.

JJJ's avatar

16 strikes of 20 pitches in 1st. Cavalli is on a mission today!

Dave Nemec's avatar

20 pitches is still too many pitches.

Which explains the high strike count; lots of foul balls.

I like this lineup, if only because it shows BB isn't mailing it in.
