Crazy thing is he was most valued for his defense. I haven't followed his story but I'm eager to learn what alchemy has turned him into a DH on the best team in baseball.
Don't look now, but Dom is red-hot with the Braves now, with 4 dingers, hitting .353 and an OPS+ of 176 in 17 games. He was available until late in the off-season.
My husband is a lifelong Braves fan. It’s a house divided and I really need the Nats to not suck so I don’t have to hear it from him until the next time we play. 🤣🤞
Ha! I identify and empathize with Rebecca. I have my own Braves fan to deal with (at the gym). Fortunately, he whomps me with non-verbal stuff. It isn't always easy being a Nats' fan, but things are looking up.
So many errors. UGH. Luckily he is being nice to me! Likely because he doesn't want to sleep on the sofa and it's easy to be nice when your team is playing well & winning. lol.
Excellent write up Mark !! Is there a way you can make a new tab on your sub-stack that only lists transactions. Otherwise we have to go all the way to MLB.com to check on latest of transactions. It seems like Nats are moving folks up and down AAA almost every game..
Ronny Cruz (of massive Spring Training home run off JP France fame) promoted from Fred Nats to Wilmington, joins a white hot Devin Fitz-Gerald from the Gore trade and last year draft pick Ethan Petry who are also batting the cover off the ball.
Of note, Toboni said Ronny Cruz was the minor leaguer that has impressed him the most and praised Debartolo for getting him in the Soroka trade.
"DH Dominic Smith"!!!
I loved that guy

Bless your heart. You are a true believer. Here's hoping they split, and you maintain the status quo ante bellum.
Uh oh, the heart-blessings are starting (and will continue until morale improves)

Definitely gonna be a difficult series. I looking for at least a split and who know what surprise may lay in store for Nats fans! GO NATS!!
"Fernandez becomes the 21st different pitcher on the Nats’ staff already this season."
The record is 42, set in 2019 by the Mariners. Is it in jeopardy?
I'm old enough to remember when most teams had 8 pitchers on the roster....
From the Nats Magic 8 Ball: will the Nationals lose to the Braves tonight?
“Don’t count on it”. ⚾️🌀🙂🙋🏼♀️

Prediction: Julian Fernandez comes in in the 8th, the Nats break a tie and hold on for the win.
Fernandez optioned back to AAA. -:)
Hiiilarious!
Second game in a row without Jorbit Vivas in the lineup. Is this a message to the team about hustling to first?
That's a great question. I wonder the same thing. It would cool to see behind the curtain.
It’s either hustle to first or shuffle to the bus station.

It’s getting about time to talk about where Seaver King might fit in. He’s not far away now.
2nd base.
Our old friend Dom Smith is DHing for the Braves and actually raking for them.
So what does everyone think about the yay/nay spots on the broadcast? Big nay from me. Showing the same ones over and over is really annoying.
Dave and Charlie concentrate on the game at hand so I’m just glad I’m missing that
I don't even recognize half these guys, so at least caption their names.
It was OK but really lets try something new after a week
Total agree. I’d ether see ads.
And we're underway on a brisk, 53-degree Monday evening at Nationals Park. It's a sparse gathering here.
I went to Opening Day some years ago and the weather was much like this - sunny and cold
And like an idiot, the first thing I did when I got in the park was order a cold beer.
I'm glad I'm not that stupid every day.
I went to the coldest game in Nats history (at the time) many years ago.
So hunched over in my seat I could barely walk after the end.
The things we do.
A ticket is a terrible thing to waste. But I am glad I have hand warmers tonight.
Cold beer on opening day authorized
A clean, scoreless first frame from Irvin!

There goes the no hitter
