Let’s go Nats! Going out to Wrigley again today, hoping for a better performance. At the very least a little bit warmer!

btw, if anybody has ever considered a trip out to Wrigley…let me tell you. Can’t recommend it enough! Great sports town with great bars and a great vibe all around. Only came out to visit a friend that moved out here and now I’m dying for the next chance the Nats come out here. What a great ballpark!

Been there a handful of times. Agreed, great experience. Of the two ancient parks, prefer Wrigley over Fenway.

We've been to Wrigley, but were only able to take a tour of the park as it was in the offseason. It is on our list of stadiums to catch a game at. This year we are going to Cleveland for a game Memorial Day weekend, and are also going to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. Should be a fun weekend if all of the TSA airport issues are settled by then.

well I flew out of Salisbury so I had no problems lol. Might not have been the same at BWI or PHL haha

DelmarvaNatitude's avatar

We usually fly Southwest out of BWI, but Salisbury is certainly a lot more convenient. Haven't flown from there yet, but I know enough people that have and have had no issues.

Is bringing up Mitchell Parker for a

lefty start an option? He pitched well in first game at Rochester.

Brandon Persinger's avatar

He did pitch well! But he would only have two days off between starts if they called him up.

Max Patkin's avatar

If he serves as an opener, that could work as that would probably be his post-start BP day anyway.

Abrams in the 6 spot again. Do they see him as an RBI guy? Or is putting him at 6 a motivational ploy to get his head right? He could hit 30 bombs if he was more disciplined at the plate. Seeing Chappy up at the 2 spot must chafe his backside just a bit... I know Butera likes to break up his lefties and righties but, if he controls the zone, Abrams could be a strong 2 hitter.

It'll be interesting to see how his place in the order evolves through April and into May.

Let Teddy Win aka Noodles&Cabg's avatar

Don't overthink it. Kilambi isn't going to put 3 LH bats in the first 5 spots against a lefty starter.

Max Patkin's avatar

Lol. Not overthinking anything. That said, have you read these comments? Overthinking is the coin of the realm here! 🤣 It's what we do. Furthermore, 3 lefties in the first 5 is not at all uncommon against a lefty. Butera will stagger them so the pitcher can't get comfortable throwing to one side of the plate or another and has to diversify his pitch selection more. As it is Butera's got 2 lefties in the top 4 and 3 in the first 6 so... But no lefties back to back.

CJ doesn't profile as a 6 unless they've determined to "let CJ be CJ" and swing away. Seems more likely his placement is purposeful. Maybe Butera is overthinking it! 😉

Lead Abrams off and move Wood to 6th. These strikeouts are getting ridiculous

So who does this mean for the home opener?

Steven Davidson's avatar

Seems that way — not what i was hoping for!!

Jacapa's avatar

So would Irvin be the next day? Im going to that game.

I predict Poulin as an opener in the second Philly game. They’ve telegraphed this a bit.

Tena gonna be odd man out?

Bob's avatar

Tena might become Eleven-a. 😎

Man, the prospect squib on Mead on mlb.com was very enticing. Seems like he'll struggle at 3d but as a hit-first 1B? Absolutely worth a shot. I'd like to know more about why he was DFA'd by Chicago. I know he was out of options but he seems to have a real future.

Neal Mollen's avatar

I see now that it was a trade for a prospect I had never heard of. Still a mystery to me; it isn't as if he's been a failure anywhere he's been, and it isn't as if the CWS are stocked deep with young talent.

Bob's avatar

Maybe they couldn’t understand what he was saying.

Nice thought on going with an opener for Littell. I hope they do it and I hope it works.

And we're underway at Wrigley, where the temperature has warmed up to 59 degrees and the wind has returned to unremarkable strength.

OHHHHH MY GOD JOEY WIEMER

Mark Zuckerman's avatar

That's NL MVP frontrunner Joey Wiemer with the three-run blast in the top of the first, his second of the season. The pitch was down below his knees, but he still managed to get there and send the ball soaring into the left field bleachers.

Susan H aka pitchingfan's avatar

Amazing. Now, can he do that against righties?

LEE MCDOWELL's avatar

Looked like a replay of the Game 1 homer. Same location, same swing.

Marcus Dilley's avatar

Seems to be his wheelhouse.

Mellotron's avatar

I'm gonna put in a vote for "day one lineup."

CBinDC's avatar

So far that is the best Irvin has pitch in a very long time
