Feel bad for Herz - he may be one of those guys whose arm isn’t able to ever fully recover….I wouldn’t count on him for any innings this season.
Boy, this is a tough test, this series, but, if this is the one game - probably the only one - where the Nats might have the advantage in the pitching matchup. But….humid night….keeping the heavy slug Phils in the ballpark is going to be a tough task. They’ve seen Griffin before, though…so no more element of surprise….
I’m quite worried about these next 7 games…..will be grateful for any/all wins.
Ugh. When I had season tix pre-2012, I hated the Philly games. They’d even show up during our games against the Mets to taunt whoever was losing. One game in particular. An entire section of Philly fans began chanting, “same old Expos” during a game in which the Mets were beating us.
Nice to see JY starting, eliminating my concern that maybe his run in with the wall was more serious than I feared! And I’m sure someone could’ve won a LOT of many betting the Trifecta that at any point in the voting Ruiz, Garcia and Mead would be in the top ten in all-star votes!
Which is right where it should be! A puddle of their drunken' fans beer (before and after consuming). Did I mention I have a tad of distain for philly phans?
Awful news about Herz. I watched the Fredericksburg game last week and he looked good. Both DJ and Jojo Gray have really been through a nightmare.
I hope Griffin can give us a long game, but the weather sounds dicey. Never a good thing for a pitcher to start a game and then be shut down due to rain.
Some members of a discussion group are complaining about James Wood’s strikeouts, especially a couple in the Tampa Bay series where he took strike three well inside the strike zone. Is there any concern about his strikeout rate? Is he seeing the ball in those times he’s caught looking?
I can’t address him statistically but do share the opinion that looking at a hittable pitch for a strike 3 in a pivotal moment isn’t helpful and he is willing to do it at times… his view of the strike zone is an important part of his game so it’s something he hopefully evolves over time situationally.
Or he is a total guess hitter and sometimes is COMPLETELY wrong, like the instances as mentioned. In one case I recall it was 3-1 and he then took TWO middle-middle heaters.
The man has a .400 OBP and is slugging .540, but if I've learned anything from social media it's that most baseball fans just like to complain.
I've also learned over the years that some of the most skilled and confident batters often look foolish or even disinterested when they strike out because they knew before the ball crossed the plate that they'd been fooled and lost the battle.
Keep submitting ASG votes, 5 per day during Phase 1. CJ and JW deserve and need our support
Yep, that's been my M.O.
What is going on with Josiah Gray ? Any timeline for him?
Seems to be a mystery but agree with Susan that we may not see him make it back. He has had brutal setbacks.
New daily rule: Nobody gets to post here who didn't vote for James Wood.
Have a few other "rules" about posting, but in the name of family unity I'll remain mute. -:)
To see Brandon Marsh listed as a starter in latest voting is mind boggling.
I hope James shames him in this week’s match up.
I almost barfed!
I love James Wood. I do not care about the All-Star game. Sorry.
I like his last name:))
You would. Or Wood.

They've seen Griffin before so no more element of surprise...
And Griffin has seen them before too, so it works both ways.
Point taken and - last night - point made! Griffin was masterful.
Way too early to give up on Herz. Look at how many setbacks Cavalli had, and now Gray also.
I hope they make him a reliever. I really believe he’s made to be one and less strain on the arm…
That might be the case with him.
nice article
strongest lineup!
Mr. Wood can be selected as a reserve by coach's players correct?
Players ballot or Commissioner's office
Report from Navy Yard:
Menacing in the distance but clear here for now. Some wind gusts. Saw a few Phillies fans go by on broom sticks.
Gates open in an hour.

Yep. They are out in force.
A lotta road trip peeps here for a 4-game series.
Now Nats fans can ask them when they last won a World Series.
Which fans are more annoying, Phillies or Mets? Could be a draw.
I agree:))
Phillies. By far. I’d sell my seats sometimes to not go and have to put up with them. Mets fans are annoying. Philly fans are belligerent.

JY is tough.
As for R, G & M -- I guess I'm not the only one voting for them after all!
Pretty dark over on the VA side. This one smells like "Weather Delay" announced at 5:51.
Sitting in Walter's in a sea of P caps.
Yes, pee caps!
Coming down hard here in Alexandria at 5:36.
big test for Griffin, I’m sure he’ll give it a good effort. go get ‘em kid!
We need him to stay here. A composed pro. Reminds me of Kyle Hendricks.
I want the offense to "hit the dog snot out of the ball" ( J. Lowenstein) tonight! CURLY W TIME!! LET'S GO NATS!! ⚾️⚾️⚾️⚾️⚾️⚾️⚾️⚾️⚾️
The start of tonight's game is officially delayed.
I don’t think there’s a world in which this game gets played today
Looks that way to me too
If so, it might give the bullpen some rest. Maybe they bring up Cornillo in that case.
It's brutal. Just told some Phillies folks, "doubleheader."
I’m here at the park. Quite the pond in front of the visitors dugout.
I refuse to go in until we get some word. Not paying for Nats dogs or 16 oz. warm beer. I'm dry, happy, and they make a good rye Old Fashioned.
Any time updates?
I am think 8 pm at the soonest.
Which is right where it should be! A puddle of their drunken' fans beer (before and after consuming). Did I mention I have a tad of distain for philly phans?
Disappointing!

...and there's the times he spits on two down the middle strikes, and then swings on ball four that's three inches off the plate.
He's still just a kid so I hope/expect he'll learn and get better soon.
I hadn’t thought about that but guessing he is too prepared to guess much, though I don’t know.
Wow, it's almost as if baseball is hard...

Considering the weather troubles of recent past seasons, Nats have been fortunate up until now. Weather delays have been rare this year!
Now that Chelsea Janes cover the Mets, would be interesting to know if the rain delays followed her to NY…
Nationals TV chyron is saying first pitch is scheduled for 8:55 pm ET
Yikes. "opens tab." And ordered dinner.
Just pretend you're watching a West Coast game.
I don't have to pretend. Lol
Oof.
They've now changed it. They've removed the new start time. It's saying the game is delayed due to weather.
