Why would we ever sit García for Chaparro? He’s having a historic June. Isn’t he a must play? It’s almost like sitting James Wood for Joey Weimer because matchups.

Yup, it makes little sense. Luis is H-O-T:))

Guess I shouldn’t have complained about Luis being moved to 7th in the order last night — could’ve been (and tonight it is) worse!

He'll be up there once the starter is out.

Unless the Nats are winning big, I would expect to see Garcia inserted into the lineup at some point later in the game. That's been the pattern with Butera all season.

Chaparro is hitting .163. The question is not why is he in the lineup, it's why he's on the team!

Of note,Nats now tied with the Dodgers for most runs scored and tied for second (with A’s, both behind Rockies) for most given up

Jams Wood's homer last night landed very closes to where Ted Williams' first home run after returning from his Korean War service landed. August 9. 1953. Trust me. I was there, age 10 at my first baseball game, and seated in the right field bleachers, I watched it fly high over my head and somewhat to my right. He hit it as a pinch hitter off Cleveland's Mike Garcia, but the Indians won the game.

What a special memory. How did they sound off the bat?

When my daughter was getting her MA at Haaaavad thats where we usually sat, with lots of students.

Charlie and Dave reported last night that Wood and Abrams went to the seat before the game with a batting coach and while sitting in the seat Wood said no way.

Nats management has shown belief in multiple players beyond what I would have shown. Sometimes that belief has paid off (Vivas doing much better than seemed possible) and sometimes not (take your pick on members of pitching staff). But one player they stick with for me defies explanation- Chapparo. BA consistently well below 200, fielding not special. At this point is there any apparent reason why they continue to stick with him?

I'm guessing for his base running ability.

Too funny.

peter wood's avatar

oh yeah, that's rich:))

No, that's Keibert LOL.

Would like to see Morales get a chance in place of Chaparro.

Garcia needs to be in the lineup every day. Stop with the Chaparro stuff.

In Boston this week so we will invade Fenway. Hate to admit it but it’s a great place to see a game. Go Nats! “Why not us!”

Mark Zuckerman's avatar

Despite some earlier rain, we are underway on time on a muggy, 78-degree Tuesday evening at Fenway Park.

Mark P's avatar

Again, I'd like to see the analytics behind giving Chaparro more bats than anyone else in the lineup tonight not named James Wood.

Mark P's avatar

Wow! Some good luck on that play for Mead! Lol

That's being aware on the bases. Nothing against the rules what he did.

He ran on the grass looked to where the second baseman was unless that was the SS and ran in front of him and got hit by the ball. Wasn't by accident.
