If so, Willson needs to apologize to his fellow Venezuelan, Chaparro, for tossing his helmet and hitting him with it and to Cade for his behavior as well. Both sides played a role in the incident.
Agreed. Again, Contreras took no offense to Cade's actual words per his postgame remarks. He took issue with Cade's trash talking behavior and reacted by tossing his helmet, an automatic ejection.
For what exactly? Contreras didn’t get angry for what was said, he didn’t even hear it. But if they could embrace in a bro-hug, it would be cool. And I bet that’s already happened. Contreras was complimentary of Cavalli before the incident with Ruiz (reportedly). The entire episode was literally boys being boys.
Perfect. This is exactly what I was hoping to hear last night. It's what was needed.
Now here's what I haven't seen: Has anybody asked James Wood, CJ Abrams, Daylen Lile, Nasim Nuñez, or Josiah Gray how they felt about it?
In a city with one of the highest concentrations of African Americans in the US, the Washington Nationals are, for the first time in team history, a team led by African American stars. Did they find this incident "galvanizing?" as Al speculated on the podcast today?
Oh man! I visited once and was amazed at the beauty. I am terrified of heights but I manned up and took many hikes. Even took a dip in iceberg lake, which still had ice in it in the summer! Loved my visit. Absolutely loved it. Are the glaciers still there? I thought they were melting.
I was there in late September of 2018. I hiked for a few days in the 50s, which is perfect hiking weather for me, and then a blizzard moved in. I was just barely able to get out of Montana in time to make my flight out of Jackson Hole.
And yes, the glaciers are still there, although they are getting smaller. That whole area of the country is truly amazing, and that’s not hyperbole.
Yeah, that main hotel there is gorgeous. They keep it staffed all year but once the snow starts, you are there for the winter, from what I understand. Apparently, only from what I was told back then, famous authors will stay there for the winter to write, since the hotel has a full staff that will live there to keep the grounds up and run the restaurant, and everything else needed to maintain it.
As someone who wanted Cavalli and the Nats to say something, I agree they handled this as well as could be expected: "My bad, I didn't know better, I feel like sh*t about it, and I won't say it again." It's honestly so refreshing that something like this can be handled so appropriately and quickly. Good for everybody involved. Onward.
Lots of great discussion on the incident last night. It was interesting that everyone got hung up on what was said, when Cavalli could have been telling him, “I love you dude” and the fight would have still happened, since Contreras didn’t even know what was said. Contreras was already spring loaded for violence and was a ticking time bomb ready to explode. Even though I think he was unjustly ejected in Game-1 by a trigger happy Ump, he deserves whatever suspension he’s getting after last night. 100%. And he shouldn’t appeal it. Take the time off. Go home. Be constructive with the earthquake response. It is noticeably having a heavy impact on his heart. Come back refreshed with a more level head. In a way, even though I’ve always thought he was a jerk, I feel bad for him.
That's the very point I've been trying to make all along. Contreras took no issue with Cade's actual words just his actions to trash talk. Others here, who weren't even on the playing field, have taken more offense to the words.
I've posted elsewhere that Boston sports legend Larry Bird would routinely trash talk his opponents, including the use of the word "boy". Where was the outrage from Boston fans and sports fans in general when he was doing that?
Again, if Cade's words are truly an issue in the Nats clubhouse, they will sort it out amongst themselves. The Nats have two Venezuelans (Keibert, Chaparro) on the active roster as well as several other persons of color (Nuñez, CJ, JW, Lile).
How about everyone act like adults. Just go about your business. All these exaggerated bat flips and posing is BS. It does nothing to improve your performance.
So we aren’t acting like adults by discussing the incident? Or, are you referencing the players? Celebrations are the culture now. And the bat flip the other night was his way of paying homage to his country and the earthquake, which was pretty clear on every network outside of NatsTown. And I find it rich that Nats fans get bent out of shape about these things when Soto was one of the leagues worst showboats when he was in a Nats uniform….and we celebrates that behavior.
The point you've been trying to make is that people shouldn't take offense, but the point I've been trying to make is it's not for us to say "don't take offense." Cade said it well. The question is whether a black kid in DC would take offense. It's whether James Wood, CJ Abrams, Daylen Lile, and Josiah Gray would take offense.
I have tried to make no such point at all. Please show me where you’ve interpreted that. Maybe you meant that for someone else. I merely said Contreras didn’t hear what he said so it played no role in the fight.
I appreciate the follow-up from all involved. Thanks.
Think that’s about the best you could’ve expected the org to handle it
I hope Cade will sit down with Willson and give him a sincere apology.
If so, Willson needs to apologize to his fellow Venezuelan, Chaparro, for tossing his helmet and hitting him with it and to Cade for his behavior as well. Both sides played a role in the incident.
Absolutely!
For what?! feel like I'm on crazy pills here.

Cade, thanks for being a class act. Keep growing into the ace and leader we all know you are! We the Nats fan base have your back!

The Nats have addressed it within house and we've heard Cade's thoughts about his words and what he's learned.
Now let's see if the Nats can win another road series today!
What a pile of nonsense!
Chappy ought not be in this lineup. He should be in Rochester, or in Glacier Nat. Park.
Having been in both I much rather be in Glacier National Park, it's really nice.
Oh man! I visited once and was amazed at the beauty. I am terrified of heights but I manned up and took many hikes. Even took a dip in iceberg lake, which still had ice in it in the summer! Loved my visit. Absolutely loved it. Are the glaciers still there? I thought they were melting.

Really??!@
Garcia needs to be playing everyday!
Does ANYBODY know why CJ isn't in the lineup???
Made up outrage by the woke mob as usual.

Cade got the message.

And the series finale is underway on a steamy, 95-degree Wednesday afternoon at Fenway Park.
Wow. Boston starter, Tolle is 6'6", 280 lbs. That's a big kid!
Fenway is a triples park, very much like Oracle in SF!
