It might determine if we are sellers. I dont think they are going buy anything significant in what shaping up to be very much a sellers market. Way more teams looking for help than pieces to be sold. I think the most likely scenario is that we pick up someone that gets waived after another team "upgrades" their BP. Small upgrade potential, low cost. Thats how we got PJ Poulin last season.
I just dont think this group is ready to give away talent they covet to build that development monster yet. We've never been this deep before and while some say use that depth, once you spend it, it can take years to get it back. Our top 5 may not be the best top 5, but right now our 20th ranked player would be top 10 on maybe a 1/2 of other mlb teams. This group wants to see who they can turn into the cream and keep improving from within.
Its different when you are looking in and figure to be only a BP arm or two from doing real damage in the post season. We have too many inconsistent pieces bith in the rotation and BP to patch them all and if you can't patch them all you don't improve your odds very well.
Never fear. I would expect we'll see Mead enter the game at some point, especially if the Nats are trailing. It's often not who starts, but rather who finishes the game.
I had the plate in a Bethesda Big Train afternoon game years ago at Shirley Povich Field in the late '90s. Conditions were very similar to today. I think I lost about 20 lbs. that day. It was incredibly taxing; I hosed down my gear when I got home.
Think this was a "end of the game so why not" challenge.
This homestand could very well determine whether we’re buyers, sellers, or a mix of both at the deadline.
Go Nats!

I say we get a SERIES OPENING CURLY W with good things on the mound, at the plate, and in the field. GO NATS!!
Both Contreras and Eaton have appealed as well, just FYI…
I know I shouldn't second-guess Butera, because he seems to be pushing the right buttons, but Vivas instead of Mead just doesn't sit right.
I suppose they're waiting for a Pirates LH reliever, but still...Mead is producing; Vivas, not so much.
I hope I'm proved wrong.

Would take a lot for me not to have Mead in as a starter but he has come in mid game and gotten big hits and plays multiple times.
I don't envy the home plate ump tonight under these conditions...
I agree. I’d switch catchers when there is a pitching change mid-game.
Fingers crossed that no player or ump falls ill, tonight or tomorrow at 11 am.
Yeah, I think tomorrow will be worse.
You're probably right, unfortunately.

Oh, wow. I've given you a like for a good story, not the results of that game!
Best story from that game - my wife is in the stands, and a kid near her asks his mom, "why is that man (me) wearing his work clothes?"
We wore the light blue dress shirts back then, not the polos.
LOL
Ditto,
I might have played in that game too.
Our pitcher almost fainted!
If I recall, it was 98 at first pitch, around 1 PM.
Man it was hot that day.
Our pitcher was Roger Miller.
Per TV stat of the night: Bucs are 5-16 vs LHP starters.
I hope that doesn't become a reverse jinx.
Who makes the call on the heat absorbing Navy Blue jersey color? Obviously, it's hot the best choice in this heat!!
Color only absorbs heat from infrared light, so it wont make a difference for a night game.
Ugh. Here we go again with the infield errors. Come on CJ!! Help your pitcher get off the field!!!
CJ took his eye off the ball as he was going to try for the DP.
Ugh. Never fails.
Well done on the DP, infield!!
Louie continues to rake!!!
As hot as the weather!
He said in the pregame he likes the heat. It’s the cold he doesn’t like playing in
He'll get all the heat he can handle this weekend!
From the DR, makes sense he can handle it.
Escaldado!
Laser beam HR!
Luis stay hot and be cool!
Luis, you beast!
I just walked in from the kitchen and assumed they were re-showing one of Luis’ recent long balls because he couldn’t possibly…
Oh yes he can...
