Where is Hassell headed for, Rochester or Washington in your opinion?

Max Patkin's avatar

Not sure whose opinion you'd like but I'd bet on Hassell making the team as 5th OF behind JY. He could be the other half of a platoon with JY if Crews were to be sent down.

It's a guess though. No telling yet what the new regime prioritizes.

Interesting about Weimer. Here's a guy virtually no one heard of before ST and now he's getting a lot of playing time (see Young injury) and may even make the roster.

But...I think he may still be odd man out.

I'm looking forward to the start of the season as I always do, but man, this roster is going to be a tough watch on most days/nights...

Don’t know why the Nationals wouldn’t go out and get Justin Turner for first base. Not impressed with Chapparo and Turner would be cheap. Turner still wants to play in 2026 and would be a good clubhouse guy.

As the regular season draws near, I am looking forward to seeing how the roster shakes out. I still expect it to be in flux over the first 2 - 4 weeks of the season. Today, I just want to see good pitching, hitting, and defense.

GO NATS!! ⚾️ ⚾️⚾️⚾️⚾️⚾️⚾️⚾️⚾️

It's only the 1st inning, but I liked the way Irvin came back from being down 3-0 to his last batter and then striking him out. (You could argue that the last pitch was a bit low, but I'm not going to argue!)

GLH aka NatsFan4Ever's avatar

I'm not going to argue, but it was low!

Really Really Really won't miss hearing the beer guy on the Nats radio broadcast at the Nats spring training ball park!

He worked my sections (110 and 111) when I was in WPB two weeks ago. Even really, really more annoying in person.

Pitch Track looked low for called strike 3. Hope they don't challenge. Jake can have a difficult time getting that third out to shorten his innings and pitch count. Hope he does well on both counts today!

Nice to get a bottom of the 1st run!

Gameday appears to be at least two batters ahead of the video feed!

Brady House continues to rake this spring. His two-out double down the first base line was his sixth of the spring, to go along with three homers as well. He's got 11 RBI, he's batting .467 and slugging .967.

Cavalli referencing “we beat people at the end of the year in key moments,” seems the team was just as excited during that Mets series as I was

I have been very impressed with Irvin all Spring, with the slight observation that the velocity dips persist, though seem to be getting less profound (certainly in comparison to 2025) as Spring goes on.

I do not like in-game interviews. I hope they don’t continue into the regular season.

The MLB.tv coverage allows me to see the Nats video while selecting Charlie and Dave for the audio. The sync is much better today.

How are you getting the radio feed? Do you have an mlb.tv or nationals.tv subscription? I’m taking advantage of the free spring training games and don’t see an option for selecting an audio feed. If this is a feature of nationals.tv, I’ll definitely sign up for it!

I'm watching on TV on the MLB ap. I can hit the down arrow, and a screen shows up that allows the choice of video as well as audio. I do not have any idea about the Nationals site since I live in Florida and cannot access it.

Thank you! I will try that next game.

Susan V's avatar

I don't think they will, if previous seasons are any indication. Let's hope anyway.

So far, so good for Jake Irvin. He's through three scoreless innings on 41 pitches. He also struck out three of the first five batters faced today, continuing an encouraging spring trend. He now has 13 strikeouts in 11 1/3 innings, a major increase from his diminished 2025 strikeout rate of 6.2 per nine innings.

GLH aka NatsFan4Ever's avatar

HP: CB Bucknor That explains it!

Susan H aka pitchingfan's avatar

Jake is looking pretty good. 5 scoreless innings, 5 Ks.

Mark Zuckerman's avatar

Make it five scoreless innings for Irvin on 66 pitches. His spring ERA is down to 1.35. And he now has 15 strikeouts in 13 1/3 innings.

Susan V's avatar

He looked really good. Maybe it's a sign he's figured some things out.

Hoping this is a long-term trend!
