Littell and Ruiz lost this one, starting to hit my limit with Zack and am well past my limit with Ruiz

Exasperating loss, given multiple HRs by Nats

Ah well, it was a good game from the players who’ll be around to stay. I unfortunately do not include Ruiz in that category as even with his defensive improvements, he’s had little to show he can bat with consistency. As long as their own individual improvement is enough to keep the players with their head up, it’s going to have to be a shrug and move on when players the likes of Littel and Mikolas give up the game.

Good thing they saved that last challenge for a situation that never happened. Lile should've challenged that strike call on the first pitch of his AB in the 9th. If only the Nats had the confidence when challenging that CJ does when swinging at high fastball on the first pitch of his at-bats.

The base-runners were there. Really disappointed by this one.

I noticed that Giolito was just signed by the Padres. These tight wide owners won’t pay for good pitchers. Also, they should be offering a huge contract to Wood now. Of course they won’t. He will end up walking. If only the fans could pool their money and buy the team.

natsclop's avatar

(1) He signed a prorated contract for 3 million, meaning he’ll make less. I’ll let you ponder for a moment why 29 other clubs didn’t bother to offer anything. If spending money for the sake of money is enough to satiate you, we’d end up with contracts like Bryant to the Rockies.

(2) Contracts are a two way thing. $440 million was offered to Soto—he said no. Wood is also a Boras client.

So you're saying we will lose Wood and it's ok cause Boras is his agent and the poor Lerners shouldn't have to pay that money ? How about Lile, should they sign him ? What they should do is sell the damn team cause they won't pay for anybody

he said nothing of the sort.

Do you think the improvements to the offense on this team came from nowhere? We’re hardly into the tenure of this new FO, and already seeing marked improvement in the bats, due to the spending in staff and technology. You’re an adult, instant gratification should be something you’ve grown out of.

DCSportsfan63's avatar

Natsclop, i’m all for what theyve done in the front office and with technology but they haven’t spent on talent other than Ruiz since 2020. If they decide to spend after the lockout I'll be the first to admit i’m wrong but I think they still want to sell the team and I dint think they’ll spend . As for instant gratification you trade Soto for good players so you assume ok this is our future and then you trade those players !!! It’s a hamster wheel

natsclop's avatar

You’re aware that everyone from the top to the bottom of the organization was fired? It is a full reset.

DCSportsfan63's avatar

Yes I am . You’re aware that they traded Gore and now you’re saying Wood will be trade and they’re trying to trade Abrams . It’s a full reset in the front office but they still aren’t paying for on the field talent

Boras has had clients who sign long term contract without going to FA. It's the players choice. If you don't think so please explain Cooper Pratt who just signed an 8 year contract with the Brewers who is a Boras client and he's never even played at the MLB level. Yea a lot of his players go to FA but Strasburg didn't, Jose Altuve didn't. If you offer Wood enough money now and buy out his arb years and offer him a 7 year contract at 250 million I bet he takes it.

DCSportsfan63's avatar

I’m agreeing with you !! It’s Natsckop who says we can't sign Boras clients . I agree we can sign him but these owners will use Boras as an excuse not to

baseball-birthdays's avatar

"It’s Natsckop who says we can't sign Boras clients ."

you seem to have reading comprehension issues.

he said no such thing.

go back and read the words as written.

and, it's natsclop, not Natsckop

DCSportsfan63's avatar

I'm agreeing with you , they can be signed even if they’re Boras clients . I never said we couldn't but i’m saying it likely won’t happen. I hope i’m wrong. And stick your comprehension where the sun don’t shine

"These tight wide owners"

well, the non tight wide owner Mets just won their first game in two weeks...

however, the non tight wide owner Phillies are on their way to their eighth straight loss.

Ruiz swung at three pitches out of the strike zone

Jacapa's avatar

He needs hypnosis to stop doing that. Lol.

Geordie Keitt's avatar

When will they start hitting the pitcher 9th in place of Ruiz? A solid bunt could have done more to win the game than whatever this guy does

Jonathan Ruddo's avatar

Harry Ford needs to start producing in AAA ASAP. Ruiz and Millas killing rallies and passing balls every night is going to give me my first gray hairs about 10 years ahead of schedule

Stephen Jobe's avatar

The catching situation is really bad. Hard to believe they are stuck with a long term contract for Ruiz. He just looks like he has completely lost confidence at the plate.

John walker's avatar

Agree completely. Both Ruiz and Millas seem to work hard and Drew has some speed. But at least Riley could also play a little first too… Harry may not be ready ready, but I saw him in person in every game in the WBC and some in West Palm and he will not go fishing out of the zone the way Ruiz does…

I feel like most days I’m imagining, what if we had good pitching?!? 😩

baseball-birthdays's avatar

patience, grasshopper :)

Tegwar's avatar

When you can take the pebble from my hand, it will be time for us to sign a top FA pitcher.

Andrew Cain's avatar

What if they had pitching that was just bad, not atrocious?

Tegwar's avatar

Last night 12 walks and tonight only 3 with 12 strikeouts. Still somehow this team scored 6 runs. Maybe Mark can look it up but we have to be one of the best PH teams so far this year. The pitching is pretty thin and they really don't have any easy answers for this right now. I wonder how far along Hetz is, maybe Mark knows.

Josh Sager's avatar

Littell, Ruiz and Tena were the weak points tonight. Jimmy Trees is still Jimmy Trees.

You just hope Herz shows the promise he did in 2024. In fairness, I'm sure they will have a strict pitch limit on him. As to Trevor Johnson, you just hope he maybe fits in the bullpen.

If Littel gives up 4 solo homers, we win. But error, walk, walk made two of them into an even more frustrating loss.

Odd thought but probably true

I guess there's a small silver lining in not having to face Sale.

Jacapa's avatar

I just looked up who is pitching, and it's their no. 2 prospect JR Ritchie. He was called up tonight. They have so much depth.
