He wasn’t horrible, but not spectacular either. At least he pitched well enough and showed enough promise to get us two nice players in the trade. He is probably fully healed and healthy now.
I also get the feeling he might’ve pitched better with this year’s coaching staff and front office than last year’s. They seem better able to put guys in position to succeed.

If this year is truly a “test drive” of what our organization has, then it feels like it’s nearly time to make room for AAA performers. Please nobody from outside except perhaps a marginal pick up, but let’s begin to promote from within, let’s see what we have under the hood. Push the pedal Paul!
I know that is tempting. But this team is so young. The organization is so young. At least let them find out who they are at least for this one season. I get it. I will absolutely be at that WC game if they pull this off. All I am saying is, I think they can do this on their own.
I mentioned in the game thread that the telecast was surprisingly very good. Would’ve been much better with a win though. But the telecast itself was awesome.
Like David said below, one was legendary Luis Gonzalez. I didn’t remember the other. But I loved the extra touch of them all wearing suits. They were very complimentary of the Nationals.
The Nats offense peaked on Friday plateaued on Saturday and plummeted today. On a more positive note I went to the FredNats game today to claim my Jacob Young, FredNats Bobblehead and was blessed with Fredericksburg Curly W vs the Hill City Howlers. I did know it at the time but it is the last game for Eli Willits as a FredNat as the Athletic’s Spencer Nusbaum is reporting Willits was promoted to High -A Wilmington after the game. It’s sad because my son and I have tickets for the FredNats Father’s Day Special Event and I was hoping to get Eli’s autograph…I am happy for Eli as he is the entire package.
I was in DC for work in April and I went to a FredNats game. Really enjoyed myself. It was my first time inside their park. Eli, even though a little reckless on the base paths, was awesome to watch.
Eli is a generational talent and he is only 18!! Assuming his body matures along with his baseball IQ he will be a Trea Turner like SS. His command of the strike zone is simply amazing. That said he had a full year as a FredNat and learned a lot. We shall see how he does at Wilmington which isn’t known as a hitter friendly park and of course the caliber of pitching we be tougher. Yesterday I was impressed by his barreling up balls…which last year he was doing as much… he looks a bit bigger this year so I suspect the new regime is truly working with him on his diet and workouts. He had some loud contact on every ball he put in play. If he continues to progress I suspect we see him on South Capitol St in 3 years maybe less.

I’d still like to see the nationals acquire or sign 2-4 veteran FAs to supplement our young core. Follow the pre-2012 formula.

I do not agree. They were still young pre-2012 also. They should’ve started supplementing this team with 1-2 legitimate FAs 2 offseasons ago.

I agree. I was surprised. Even factoring in Frannys bias of the Nats, the other guys seemed to have knowledge on the team and spoke well of them.
