When Parker came in there was no doubt what was coming with BE at the plate. None. I If this doesn’t do put an end to his time up with the Nats, don’t know what will.

Made me a lot of sad money

Carl Rosendorf's avatar

I agree long overdue and replace Andres as well

Please

Andrew Cain's avatar

Why in the world do you take Ribalta out of the game?

Gray Moon's avatar

I was thinking that AS IT HAPPENED....I swear! So I agree!

Carl Rosendorf's avatar

Over coaching

No leverage pitchers all except Orlando

Logan Smith's avatar

What a brutal loss. That would've been an excellent way to go into a day off the the homestand, but instead it's just heartbreak.

Cameron Smith's avatar

.500 ball is no longer this team’s boogeyman, it’s now completing a sweep.

What an awful loss by the bullpen.

Puts quite the damper on what could’ve been a 5-1 road trip.

markopc's avatar

I would LOVE it if the Nats failed to complete the sweep of every series from now until the season ends!

Ohfer's avatar

Winning a series is an artificial construct. Playoff inclusion only cares about total wins and tie breakers. It drives me nuts to hear anyone being satisfied with a "series" win, especially with an 8 run lead in the eighth. Arrggghhhh.

markopc's avatar

Winning most of the series of the season is as much an “artificial construct” as winning most of the games in a season. It is not a logical fallacy: it means you end the season winning about 2/3 of the games.

Ohfer's avatar

Winning this series will offer no succor if the team misses a playoff spot by a single game, by this 11-10 mess. Afraid I heartily disagree. They can't pretend to be satisfied by that.

markopc's avatar

Nobody said they were satisfied with this result today. That’s a straw man argument. But this is one game out of 162. No reason to over react. There will always be games we coulda, shoulda, woulda. But sometimes this happens. If it happened frequently then it would be a problem. It doesn’t.

I was playing with numbers the other day when they were 32-32. At that point if they took 60 percent of the remaining 98 that would be 58 more wins and they would finish with 90. Hardly an artificial construct.

Cameron Smith's avatar

I know I know there are worse problems to have (especially compared to how they played before this season).

The chances are there for more and it’s still frustrating to see what they’re leaving on the table! Far better than what I expected of them heading into the season however.

Onto the next series.

Carl Rosendorf's avatar

Deparately need 2 more relievers .

That trade for Harry Ford looking brutal.

Can't use Lord every day.

Should have kept Ribalta in

Kifah Foutah's avatar

This is the worst Nats loss in years, this bullpen is such an insult to the fans and the position players who score runs every night. This team has to get serious and assemble a real bullpen

david behnke's avatar

Could you remind me of which free agent pitchers considered signing with a projected last place team on the off season

Mike Stuhler's avatar

We are not in win now mode, so this was always going to be the bullpen we had. That being said, no bullpen, no matter how bad they are, should blow an eight-run lead in three innings.

Josh Sager's avatar

Mitchell Parker needs to go. Holy crap.

HOW DO YOU BLOW THAT LEAD?

McMerc7MHDC's avatar

Varland too. He’s the one who loaded the bases.

Josh Sager's avatar

Varland im eh on. But Parker should’ve been gone after spring training. Hes absolutely terrible. I don’t understand what this brain trust sees in him

John walker's avatar

Soul -crushing. DFA Parker

CBinDC's avatar

Butera is IN OVER HIS DAMN HEAD that was the worst loss in YEARS you suck kid you really really suck

McMerc7MHDC's avatar

That’s…extreme. Give credit where credit is due. He’s gotten it right WAY more often than he’s gotten it wrong.

Mike Stuhler's avatar

Also, no manager really deserves that level of blame for a bullpen blown an eight-run lead in three innings. That's on the players.

DCSportsfan63's avatar

CB needs tranquilizers after games like these . He thinks the team if the worst ever when they lose

Travis McGavin's avatar

Butera has done a lot of good but he lost that game. No clue why you bring in Mitchell Parker—who might have worst mental game on team—into a pressure situation. Asking for trouble. And Paxton Schultz should have been taken out after the 1st walk but was left in to give up another walk and a double and pitch 40+

Josh N's avatar

I think they only had Brad Lord (threw 50+ the day before) and Beeter (threw a bunch each of the two days prior). They just ran out of arms again

Travis McGavin's avatar

That statement makes sense. But you cannot let the game reach the point where Mitch Parker is in a tense situation in the 9th inning. I think Parker as a Nats pitcher is done. He is fragile mentally to begin with. That reminds me of Davey ruining Sam Clay by continuing to put him in high leverage situations. In 2021, lefty Brad Miller hit a GS off Sam Clay and Clay was basically done as a MLB pitcher

Josh N's avatar

Agreed, I just think it’s a bad bullpen without many good options to begin with so it gets exposed

WDCFan's avatar

Oh, there's definitely a bit of Davey Martinez in Butera. Leaving guys in too long, putting the wrong guy at the wrong time........still waiting to see some form of killer instinct with Blake.

Tom Milani's avatar

On the offensive side of the ball, he has plenty of killer instinct. His decisions to pinch hit and his lineup construction in general are partly responsible for the offensive explosion this year. He wouldn't be the first Nats manager with a subpar bullpen to begin the season.

Randem's avatar

At least let Ribalta pitch another inning.

Tim K's avatar

Even the Rochester Red Wings announcers mentioned the devastating loss

Andy's avatar

Not sure there is a reason to have Schultz or Parker in the majors

amb513's avatar

Mark, any indication of why Miles Mikolas was up in the pen?

dennis703's avatar

C&D surmised it was just a side session. At first, they half-joked he might come in and have it in-game given the score at the time.

Sam Diament's avatar

I hope Parker doesn't throw another pitch for the Nationals this year. He's been truly awful.

david behnke's avatar

Well the haters sure came out of the wood work No comments when things were going well though.

Steven Davidson's avatar

The comments were pretty clear to take Schultz out!

Andrew Cain's avatar

That’s neither true, nor fair. Many of us make complimentary comments when the team wins.

Fans who pay good money to watch and follow this team have every right to question such an egregious loss.

Questioning today’s bullpen management does not make fans “haters.”

They’re upset because they care for the team.

david behnke's avatar

And the comment was not directed at fans like you and others that participate no matter the situations. There are those that never recognize the positives but jump in if things go south

Beached56's avatar

Yep. I’m trying not to respond to one in particular. Need to figure out if there is a mute option.

david behnke's avatar

I would love a mute option

FWIW I did that to someone (and I bet it's someone being referred to above) and they kept showing up anyway so I resorted to using Block instead.

DCSportsfan63's avatar

David you are the new Native DC or 4th Street , maybe you are one of them . Bashing anymore that criticizes them even after they blow a 9-1 lead . Parker needs to go is the bottom line and you need to not worry about those that offer criticism in a situation like this

baseball-birthdays's avatar

(...) the new Native DC or 4th Street (...)

both very annoying but sensible people

Steven Davidson's avatar

The comments were pretty clear to take Schultz out!

Tim K's avatar

Have to flush this loss, but make some tough bullpen decisions

dcNatz's avatar

I’ve been critical of this game. You haven’t seen me singing the praises almost daily about this team? Even during losses? It’s actually ok to be critical when it’s deserved and today it is highly deserved. Today I saw a team managed by amateurs.

david behnke's avatar

And there is no reason for you to pick yourself out as my target. You like others are a sincere fan. We had some become outright rude who we never hear from when things are going well. I often wonder if it’s due to betting

dcNatz's avatar

That’s fair. And I do recall a handful from MASN who were just like that. Here I thought was different since this site requires a fee to post comments. It keeps the trolls away. Mostly. But I digress. I hear ya.

Steven Davidson's avatar

Schultz was also terrible in the 7th. Why bring him out for another inning? He retired 3 of 9 and he left him in. Bringing in parker was even worse
