Nats pitching depth and a big offensive 5th inning made the difference tonight

The tarps off guys were particularly noisy tonight. I'm going Wednesday with a bud, and I'm hoping they're just as noisy then.

Be the adult in the group and have them keep it family friendly

My regular seats aren't anywhere near them. And nobody listens to me, anyway.

Bernie Gilbert's avatar

I didn't say anything; I was watching from home.

Good game, and a curly W in the books. I would like to hear Butera's response to the "challenge" call in the first.

Very interested to hear comments

Home plate ump was all over the place tonight.

Time for a 🧹🧹!! Let’s go boys! That would also give the team its first 5-game winning streak of the season!

Keep on keeping on Nats!!! On Dylan Crews I am almost ready to eat🐦‍⬛🐦‍⬛. If he continues the “process” he looks to at least meet the draft day expectations. I am still not sure what was causing him to have trouble with breaking balls. That said I continue to be cautiously optimistic that Dylan will blossom into at least an average MLB player with potential upside to star to superstar status.

The NATS are rollin'!! I'm thinking with Foster Griffin on the bump tomorrow, and if the BIG O continues their thing, a CURLY W is in the near future.

I keep hearing "Beat the teams you're supposed to beat" in my head, so fingers crossed that the fellas do exactly that.

Go, Nats!!

GLH aka NatsFan4Ever's avatar

So what you're saying is you're hearing voices in your head?!?

Tarps off crew needs to be a permanent section in the 200s. They were awesome tonight.

Dylan looks like he’s figuring it out now slowly but surely.

My only complaint? The umpiring tonight was absolutely horrid. Especially that clear-non-tap that was called a challenge by the second base umpire.

The national media is slowly beginning to acknowledge the Nats! While the White Sox are perhaps the sexier team to go on about (they were historically bad in ‘24), the Nats and Sox both turning into feel good stories. The podcast “Just Baseball” earlier today really lauded the offense at length.

What is wrong with Franny? Is he ok? He was borderline incoherent during postgame with Alexa

Franny to me is always borderline incoherent.

(To be clear, I'm not saying he doesn't have coherent thoughts in his head. But what comes out is borderline incoherent.)

Geordie Keitt's avatar

I get worried about him, it’s like he’s stroking out. I think there’s a good mind in there somewhere but he’s intimidated by Alexa and wants to intimidate Dan, so he’s stuck between gears and can’t just “express his talent” like Davey would say

Let Teddy Win aka Noodles&Cabg's avatar

Nicely put.

But honestly, show me a clip of game coverage where Frandsen ever once spoke in complete sentences.

Not sure how much everyone catches him on the Sirius/XM MLB channel (he's on a lot) but seems to generally do better there. Maybe it's the format where it's he and one or two other guys sitting in a studio on the radio.

But, agree. On TV he's a puzzle.

Nice complete game against a team they should have been able to beat. Seems like playing at home is no longer a thing. One observation though, Nunez does make the spectacular unexpected plays, but he does need to make the expected plays too. Not doubting his effort but wondering why he has booted or whiffed on more than a few of the plays that should be routine for him. As for the postgame coverage- kudos to Alexa for giving Alvarez a sit down interview. And glad to hear Butera give the shout out to Mead. He has made me stop worrying about third base. So solid.

In his postgame interview, Nunez said he's still learning the angles as a 2B. He also likened it to driving in England where everything is the opposite.

Mark's avatar

I didn’t see that, appreciate that he addressed it.

Crews really does seem to be getting better at swinging at strikes since he came back up. Like most hitters, his swings look a lot better when he gets ahead in the count and can force the pitcher to come to him.

I think we’re starting to see him mature as a player. In college, he could get by on sheer talent, but that isn’t enough in the majors. It probably took him a little while to realize just how hard this game is at this level.

Now the approach looks better, the at bats look more controlled, and the results are starting to follow. And confidence matters too. Playing well on the bases and in the field can carry over into the batter’s box. Hope it all continues.

I still don't think he's quite unlocked yet. He's showing glimpses, but still hitting into some bad luck. He'll have a monster game soon, I believe, and that will open the floodgates.

The Nats have swagger now! I mean, when they get average or better pitching, they are not just winning, but punishing teams.

mulch spider's avatar

The tarps off thing has gotten to be horribly tacky. Embarrassed as a Nats fan to have to hear their inane NPC chanting all game. Needs to go

Just heard D.J. Herz will start tomorrow for Fredericksburg. We will see how it goes but there's a chance he could be up before the AS break. I would think because of his innings limit he will pitch out of the bullpen.

Let Teddy Win aka Noodles&Cabg's avatar

I am first hopeful that he's 100% healthy, but beyond that I'm eager to see how this coaching staff can help him develop. DJ had the goods before the injury.

So Glad to see the Dylan Crews that Dylan Crews was thought to be, become a reality. I really feel he is going to be at the level of play of James and CJ by the end of the month.
