Team’s morale is in the crapper. We were doing great despite the 4 game loss leading into the deadline. They really didn’t do anyone any good by trading away promising talent. No free agent that has options will want to come to the Nationals

The shame of it is there is no guarantee they can put together a lineup next year that will be near as productive. A lot was going right and had come together this season.
Here is where Butera needs to earn his pay. It is always easier when the offense is humming and morale is high and the team is loose. But beyond bullpen management and matchup percentages and cold analytics, a modern manager still needs to connect with and motivate his team. At the heart of it, baseball is still a very human game. He needs to learn how to help the team get through this and regain their competitive potential. (Unless, of course, he feels it is “never on the coaches”…too soon?)
He needs to get the team needs to show a change to how they approach at bats with runners on second and third. I do like him as a manager but there is a reason they aren’t scoring and it’s not just bad luck, nerves, or lack of star talent. Can not strand that many runners.
They aren’t using situational hitting. Contact towards right field, not striking out, not popping up, bunting, etc to get runners moved. AKA small ball which can get runners moved and in.
Oh dear. The Nationals have collapsed. They need to go back to basics. Don’t swing at stuff out of the zone. Move runners up. Keep your head in the game. Reduce throwing errors. Throw strikes. Etc. We knew this would be a tough season and there’s still time to reclaim dignity. The deals over the past week seem to have improved the team but don’t count yr chickens before they hatch. Next year might well look better, some promising signals.
Before the trades I was excited and thinking about seeing some games. Not so sure now. Griffin was the straw. Without him the team would be in a much worse position. Now it is.
Wow, how quickly this online community has gone dark and gloomy. Last year we won only 65 games, this year we’ve won 55 by the end of July. We can can top last year’s total by winning 5 or 6 games per month in August and September. Playing 4 vs. Braves and 4 vs. Phillies was never gonna be easy. But we have series against 4 last place teams between now and season’s end. Colorado, Cincy, Angels, Mets. I’m confident we can improve upon last year’s results.
The outlook isn’t as bright as it was at the end of the AZ series, that is real and evident. But I agree there is time left for some positives before the season is over. My expectations were similar to last year but there was no way to know how the team would respond or who would respond to the new management. So they need to find who can regroup and be part of a rebound so they end productively. That is what I hope to see.
Hit wrong button. For an offense need “money players”. These are the hitters that move runners up or drive in runners. They know the value of situational hitting. I don’t think that is measured with the current analytics. Almost all hitters swing out of their shoes. It’s why I’m concerned Crews will not succeed. He overswings on every pitch and only sometimes swings into one. Until we have money hitters or pitchers Nats won’t be successful.

A few?? This team is circling the drain on this season. I predict we'll finish last in the NL East, behind the Mets, by a good margin.

For most of the season the Nats were an unbalanced team with a strong offense and shaky pitching. They aren’t unbalanced any longer.

This game reminded me a lot of the 22-25 Nats. With Wood, Mead, Garcia and Foster all missing / gone it feels like the air got let out of the balloon.
