First time the offense was a disappointment. But holy moly, the Pirates pitching is elite. Never underestimate that staff. Let’s get a series split tomorrow!
Bring up Adams and carry 3 catchers /let Riley play some first too (which obviously has been a defensive weakness). Given Butera’s penchant for pinch hitting for the catcher late, I hold my breath every game (it seems) and worry who the “emergency” catcher might be…
The poor ABS challenging from our catchers has become a real issue and trend. Mark said Keibert is 1-6 behind the plate this year. The two pitch sequence in the 5th where he/Irvin didn’t challenge the Bryan Reynolds walk pitch at the top of the zone (gameday had it clipping for a strike) and instead were left confused by the check swing, then Keibert incorrectly challenged the very first pitch of the next AB (out of spite?) was so bad. They’ve got to tighten that aspect up
Not to mention Abrams' "error" at that allowed one of the runs to score. He could've easily stepped on 2nd and ended the inning. We never scored, so it didn't "matter" in the end. But that sort of play is what has been holding CJ back from being an elite SS
Sometimes, you have to give credit to the Pirates pitching.

Need to bring up Adams from Triple A where he’s hitting .300. Offensive production out of Ruiz and Millis has been awful.
Riley is hot now at AAA. Concur, get him here

who’s most likely to get DFA’d? he’s no longer on the 40
If Waldichuk needs TJ surgery, they'll put him on the 60-day IL, which opens a spot on the 40.
