Lile, García lead power surge in Cincinnati
A Nationals lineup that already ranked second in the majors in runs scored took it up a notch tonight with six home runs to trounce the Reds
CINCINNATI – The great mystery of the 2026 Nationals is how this lineup ranks second in the majors in runs scored despite featuring only two regulars with an OPS higher than .705 entering play today.
They’ve managed to do it by getting consistent production out of James Wood and CJ Abrams, and then hoping one or two others contribute some big hits on a given night, then one or two others the next night, and so on and so forth.
What a difference, though, it would make if one or two players not named Wood or Abrams stepped up and became consistent producers as well. What would that ideal scenario look like?
It would probably look a lot like tonight’s 10-4 drubbing of the Reds, a game that saw the Nationals launch a season-high six home runs, two a piece from two guys who would love to join Wood and Abrams as consistent producers: Luis García Jr. and Daylen Lile.
“It goes a really long way when a lineup lengthens out like that,” manager Blake Butera said. “When you’re getting two home runs from Luis, two home runs from Daylen ... our lineup’s very deep when those guys are contributing outside of CJ or Woody.”
