Monday morning Q&A from the sky
Answering your Nats questions while en route from Phoenix to San Francisco
35,000 FEET ABOVE THE WESTERN UNITED STATES — Good morning from the friendly skies! Yes, I’m currently in the air, making my way from Phoenix to San Francisco for the second leg of this West Coast road trip. (OK, to be fully transparent: I typed up this intro last night, and it published before my flight actually took off. But by the time I’m ready to begin answering questions, I’ll be in the air.)
It was a successful weekend for the Nationals, who enjoyed a pair of lopsided wins over the Diamondbacks before dropping Sunday’s series finale. That’s four consecutive road series won by the team, a feat that hadn’t been accomplished around here since 2018. Next up is a three-game set with the Giants, who continue to struggle under first-year manager Tony Vitello.
Since I’ve got a couple hours with nowhere to go, let’s take this opportunity to field your questions. But a couple important notes here: 1) I’ve got a limited window of time when the WiFi is available on my flight, so I’m probably not going to be able to get to everybody’s questions, 2) With that in mind, please try to limit yourself to one question so I can get to as many as possible in this timeframe, and 3) Please scroll through other readers’ questions before submitting your own, so as not to duplicate something that’s already been asked.
OK, my flight is scheduled for departure at 10:25 a.m. EDT, so hopefully I’ll be logged on a few minutes later and can begin typing out my replies …

I just spent some time reading the entire Q&A.
Mark, I'm almost speechless. We fans are so lucky to have this level of detail and input into our favorite team. There's more information here in one day than we used to get in a full season.
Thank you, thank you, thank you.
There have been a number of articles about how/why the Nats hitters are doing better this year - info from coaches, lineup changes, hitting machines, etc - and everyone seems to avoid asking the obvious question so I'll ask it here: were the Nats coaches just doing a bad job the last couple of years?
