Al & Mark convene just a few days before the Nationals open the season at Wrigley Field on Thursday afternoon. There has been a flurry of roster activity in the past few days as Spring Training is finished and the Paul Toboni Era is underway. (04:45) Josi
Well I do have to say that Al's point of Crews becoming that Face of the Franchise Hall of Fame Player as he was sold has become almost impossible BUT the Mickey Mantle story had him coming up, failing was sent down and later came back all in his Rookie Season and the rest they say is History
I agree with Mark that Crews needs to take the coaching that’s given to him and implement it in his swing. According to Keith Law, there are pitches that Crews used to clobber in college and the low minors that he is no longer able to do. Law further states that Crews has made no adjustments to his swing.
Good morning - new subscriber over from WaPo. Have not followed the Nats closely this spring but noticed Harry Ford on the Roster as "Optioned". Is he injured???
No problem! I’d take him over milas but mark and al mentioned on the pod that this opening day roster is definitely not the “best 26”. A few guys prob should be in big leagues but they really want to continue to develop.
I’m expecting a mostly abysmal year, the keys being ether Gavin & Eli continue evolving quickly & how harry ford does. Crews is most likely a colossal bust; Josiah grey is maybe interesting but mostly Just a guy, same w Irvin etc. Seaver king is interesting. CJ probably Gets traded at the deadline. Wood is excellent, can he control the k’s?

As expected, Rule 5 guy Griff McGarry returned to the Phillies.
Also, after this pod was taped, the Nats acquire infielder Zack Short from the Yankees for cash. Apparently, he plays multiple IF positions.

He’s not injured. They just see him as catcher of the future and want to get him significant playing time in AAA rather than splitting with Ruiz.
Thanks Eric. Did see him doing well for GB in WBC, glad for THIS explanation.
