Nats deal Griffin to Guardians for four prospects in final trade-deadline deal

PHILADELPHIA – The Nationals completed two trades before tonight’s 6 p.m. deadline, one of them involving their most-talked about name, one of them involving a minor leaguer whose name hadn’t come up in any recent speculation.
The Nats dealt Foster Griffin to the Guardians for four prospects, ultimately turning the 31-year-old lefty they signed out of Japan over the winter into several players who could figure into the club’s long-term plan while acknowledging the chances of signing him to a long-term extension were slim.
In a lesser deal made in the 5 o’clock hour, the club also traded Triple-A outfielder Christian Franklin to the Orioles for Double-A right-hander Joe Glassey, moving a promising young player who was blocked at the MLB level to bolster the organization’s pitching depth.
