I gotta say, I really don't like the notion that because Morales isn't their pick, they don't care about him. I mean, he's just clobbering the ball. The regular DH, Jose Tena, also not a Toboni acquisition, is slashing 221/277/394. A AAA slash line of 355/431/587 is highly likely to translate into more than that. Also, Morales was the 40th pick in the draft, first guy in the 2nd round, so it's not like he's Just Some Guy.
Also, let's apply the Andrew Alvarez logic -- screw the scouting report if he's averaging over 2 total bases every game.
Mead is playing out of position at 3B, and I'm assuming neither he nor Yoyo is very good defensively. Vivas isn't hitting at all, so he should be a defense-only backup.
It looks like they're trying to make Garcia fit at 1b, but his numbers there aren't much good, and his bat, while credible, still isn't that great, and he has big platoon splits.
I just think there are combinations of guys for 1b, 3b, and DH, both against lefties and righties, that include Morales and would give dramatically better offensive production for a negligible drop in defense.
