Lots of those this year. I’d hoped we’d left that behind with the arrival of new arms at the trade deadline. The more things change, the more things stay the same.
If someone is throwing the same pitch over and over and not getting outs, the pitching coach or catcher needs to intervene. Not sure who was calling pitches
They should have taken him out. MZ reported they called for fastballs from the dugout and he wouldn’t throw it. He didn’t trust he could throw it which made him totally predictable which is what did him in…
While this loss was extremely disappointing, Mark does highlight Dion's outstanding pitching performance. Looks as if he can be counted on for multiple long inning options in the future
I enjoyed Brady standing there watching with his bat raised high in his left hand. Looked like a guy who just stroked a 65 foot putt, and realizing it's about to go into the cup...
BOOOOOtera Fiddles while the Nats Season and the Fans (the FEW LEFT) BURNS. If Baby Huey wanted to try stuff out why did he pick NOW to do it really how much of everyone's time and life can he waste with his lets see if the guy can close a game away what arrogance is this now.
What a frustrating series it's been against the Mets, a crappy team the Nats should be able to beat but they can't. Why can every other team get walk off wins against the Nats but they've never had a walk off run this year against anyone?
Another blown loss by the bullpen. But at least Dion had a good outing
The idea for the City Connects(besides to sell merch)was to connect the team and its baseball heritage to it’s city. Our original gray cherry blossom ones were fantastic. The new light blue with the city map and Senators block “W” are growing on me.
The Mets harken back to the early 1900 Giants unis with the Brooklyn Bridge on the helmet recognizing the Dodgers. I quite like them and I feel they tastefully accomplished the goal.
The other team to “hit a homer” is the Red Sox second version, with its Fenway Green Monster Green hat and Jersey. Most other teams I can take or leave.
Well I love ya Hondo, I do. But the Mets say the grey derives from the concrete of NY city (not the Giants and Dodgers like their regular colors do) and the purple from the number 7 subway line that runs to Citi field. And the bridge is the Queensboro bridge.
But I agree ours was amazing!! And I still think the idea of having grey with a bright color that pops was ours first! (But also agree their combo looks sharp!)
Well, I stand corrected on the details, but I believe (possibly incorrectly) that the pinstripes and NYC font has to do with early 1900s NYC Baseball. Broadly speaking they seem to be connecting toNY baseball heritage.
No getting around Lord’s disastrous start or the finish by Cruz. Sure seems like Cruz needs to go to AAA to work on his pitching. Wondering if we will hear something is wrong with Lord?
Cruz knows what his problem is: he knows if he can’t get the proper velo on his 4 seamer then his slider won’t work. This is what the Banner’s Kyle Williams reported : “He ( Cruz) said he’s throwing his splitter more with the Nationals, but he said nobody explicitly told him to lean on that pitch.”
The splitter is a good pitch for him to learn because it is less dependent on velo and instead of a break it relies on gravity. Leo Mazzone used to instruct his pitchers to hold the ball further back in the hand so that the ball will travel slower.
Being sent down to work on his splitter and maybe develop a breaking ball is not a terrible idea.
Pitching mechanics is not something I personally understand but wonder if his fastball can be salvaged. I know he didn’t want to throw it and he has problems with it. He is not just getting started and seems late to be figuring it out.
That’s a tough question to answer. I mean he’s probably been throwing that way since he was teen. This is where the Brewers are cutting edge. They literally have a pitching lab at their Arizona complex. They’ ll take a pitcher that no one else wants or gave up on and rebuild him.
Lord pitches from a low arm slot so lefties will naturally be able to pick up his pitches sooner. Based on 20-20 hindsight, it might have been better to start Dion, not because he’s a LHB but because his arm slot is over head — which makes hard for both LHBs and RHBs to pick-up the ball. If Poulin weren’t on the IL , he’d be a good option also.
Along the lines of coaching - why didn't they walk Lindor in the 9th? Doing so would have given them the chance of a double play and/or a force out at home. And the Fox broadcast team said Lindor leads MLB is Sac flies. What am I missing?
That would make sense if Cruz’s slider was breaking properly and Bichette wasn’t following Lindor. Cruz’s slider was breaking like a change-up ( it was going down and in on his throwing side). If he walked Lindor Cruz would have either hit Bichette or he would have hung a slider in the middle and Bichette would have crushed.
How hard is it to find somebody, anybody, who can get 3 outs without giving up a run? His comment about abandoning the fastball seemed insane to me. As per an earlier commentator, someone should’ve gone out there and told him to throw his 100 mph fastball.
On the post game, Charlie and Dave were about as close as those two come to unloading on the team. It's not their style and I get it but they were barely disguising their frustration. Dave wanted be more direct about Cruz and his idiotic pitch selection but bit his tongue.
Lipscomb hit 2 HR and a double for Rochester. He now has 24 and an OPS of about .890. Something must be clicking with him. I left to go to a restaurant and didn’t have to witness our latest 9th inning meltdown. Mets have won 7 of 10 so they weren’t going to lay down for us. At least we had the nice game by Dion. We need to score 6 runs or more a game with our pitching.
This one was a different type of loss. It was clinching defeat from the jaws of victory kind of loss.

There will be more.. Because the core is demoralized from the trade.. And the fans are too..

Will Dion and Brady House were the positives. Chappy too.
Everyone else 👎
Nice to find out Dion is a talented pitcher.
He’s easily been my favorite of the acquisitions. That curveball is incredible.

What about JY? 2 for 4 with a nice catch.

When I was dreaming of a sweep this weekend, this what not what I exactly had in mind.

Memo to the Mets: stop copying our City Connects from a few years ago.

Yes, well said
I hate all of the “City Connect” uniforms. They stink.

I'm curious about Lord as well. He looked way, way off today.
No pitcher is perfect:))
He has so much movement on his pitches, it seems like when he loses the zone he doesn’t recover it quickly. Just my casual observation.

What is the responsibility of the 3nd and 1st base coaches?
Nunez getting picked off and Pinkney out at home.
Yikes..
Meant 3rd sorry

Thanks. I still would have liked the possibility (admittedly remote) of either a force out or a double play.
If you don't get thrown out at home sometimes, you're not trying to score enough.
Ugh. Losing a series to the Mets at this juncture is just…woof. If they stubbed their toes like this, I think we may be in for a nasty road trip.
Can we please witness a CURLY W tomorrow afternoon? GO NATS!!
I knew trying to turn Lord into a starter was a bad idea. He’s an excellent option out of the bullpen and they should be happy with that.
So true. I want to like him and at times he does well, but it seems like it’s mainly as a reliever.
