Surprised/not surprised on Parker. I thought he'd grab one of the bullpen spots, but the numbers game got him. And, as Mark says, this gives him time to work it out regularly at AAA.

Let's face it. We know guys like Parker and Alvarez (and others) will eventually be back in D.C. Inevitable injuries and poor performances almost guarantee it.

Or deadline trades

Alvarez has looked good this spring. I would expect him to be called up before Parker this year. Same with Seaver King being called up before Lipscomb, who hasn’t demonstrated an ability to hit major league pitching when it counts, i.e., big league games.

Remember when Lipscomb had that hot spring training at the plate? The Heroes of March are rarely who we think they are.

I heard the Nats Chat today and on the subject of TV situation I agree with Marks feeling about the matter and what seems to be the product and its presentation, but I do think that the team can and should demand a better presentation and to not do so just says to the fans we don’t care about you

It will be interesting to see the Rochester rotation. Not a lot of spots left at the inn -- you are already effectively there with Parker, Eder, Alvarez, Cornelio and Perales. Then presumably Josiah Gray. And as of now they've kept Waldichuk stretched out.

CheetahBunny's avatar

Waldichuk is the only long relief lefty option on the 40 man so they likely are giving him the job to start the season. He threw well yesterday.

the mets starter today... is that THE Carl Edwards Jr.? since when is he a starter or opener and how old is he?

gonatsgo1's avatar

34. Pitched briefly for the Cubs in '24. Don't see any MLB '25 stats for him.

Fredo Rizzo's avatar

When he signed with the NYets last holiday season it was reported he'd be used as a starter. I saw CEJ play with the ANAHEIM Angels early in the 2025 season after they let go of Ian Anderson, yet another Braves P top prospect who'd fallen on hard times. Anderson was 2016's 1-3. The first five picks were Moniak, Senzel, Ian A, and two guys who I can't remember but made MLB, very briefly. Our 2016's, Carter Kieboom and Dane Dunning, actually make Mike Rizzo look good for once. At least they made MLB with just cause.

I’m here at the game and it sure is the same Carl Edwards Jr! And he looked better in the first inning against us than I ever remember him looking for us! But maybe it’s just that special way we have to make pitchers look good 🤣

tulku sherdor's avatar

in his first year with us he had 1.4 WAR with a 2.76 ERA which is pretty good!

GLH aka NatsFan4Ever's avatar

None of these moves were surprising to me. I like the starting lineup of many of the OD roster. GO NATS!!

cipherlockinexile's avatar

Game is just starting.

gonatsgo1's avatar

1-0 Mets already. Bot 1st coming.

Entire Nats line up, save Millas, has a batting average beginning with an "0" or a "1."

markopc's avatar

I’m surprised they let Littell go 3 full innings his first ST game. Not a bad start. Offense is pretty putrid so far.

Susan H aka pitchingfan's avatar

No, not bad at all from what I can glean from Gameday. Well, he did say he had been training on his own, so I guess that prepared him for this first start.

cipherlockinexile's avatar

Was the offense putrid, or was Carl Edwards, Jr brilliant? Tough call.......

I was not being serious, but now they are showing life against Hudson.

Susan H aka pitchingfan's avatar

LOL

Edwards' replacement was more to their liking - they've tied the score at 2, due to a Crews single, a Tena BB, a Nuñez double, and a Morales sac fly.

Susan H aka pitchingfan's avatar

Crews just singled to right field. His second hit of the spring, I believe.

You're not getting an autograph!

DCSportsfan63's avatar

Top of this lineup cannot hit ! Lile and House , Nunez and maybe Tena. Chapparo , all good, the rest havent don't squat !

gonatsgo1's avatar

Mets take it 8-3.

Testudonal Fortitude's avatar

So I guess the last roster spots are between Ortiz and Tena & Millas and Ford. Right now I think Tena and Millas will be on the Opening Day roster.

gonatsgo1's avatar

I think so, too.

Nobody is saying it, but it's a virtual lock Ortiz is headed to AAA.

We'll see Ford in the bigs in '26. Just a matter of timing.

markopc's avatar

Tena has no more minor league options remaining, so unless they are willing to lose him—which I doubt they are—he’ll remain on the roster. You’re probably right about Ford. If he had been in ST the whole time he might have gotten a chance to prove he’s ready, but I think not being here hurt his chances. They don’t want to rush him and may want to give him some time at AAA before bringing him up. But I expect he will be up. Probably sooner than later, depending on how Ruiz, Millas and possibly Adams perform.

Greg10ike's avatar

At this stage of his career, Ford needs to play every day, and Rochester is the place right now. Millas is a career backup catcher so DC is the place for him. Ortiz is still in camp because Taboni doesn’t want to give up hope yet on the only potential immediate impact player from the Gore trade. But he looks like a 4A player, as do most of the players on our roster right now. Sorry to say.

Buster's avatar

IMO, Alvarez deserved better bases in his performance and, what I interpreted from Toboni, that roster spots were going to be an open competition. I felt that meant top performers will earn jobs.

Littell’s outing is all good news:

3 IP, 3 H, 1 R, 0 BB, 2 K, threw 39 pitches of which 28 were strikes. He mixed in his splitter, four-seamer, slider, sweeper and sinker.

Quoted by Jessica Camerato of mlb.com:

“While I’ve thrown to hitters [in the offseason], I haven’t gotten out there and had the pickup and intensity. Delivery was a little bit off, timing was off, which is all normal stuff at this stage,” Littell said. “But I was just happy to be able to play. I think that’s the main goal -- go out there and throw a lot of strikes and get outs. At the end of the day, that’s maybe not necessarily how I wanted to do it, but it got done.”

gonatsgo1's avatar

Fun Fact:

His full name is Zack Stuart Littell. Surprised his nickname isn't "Mouse."

markopc's avatar

I bet he got teased by other kids about that growing up. Maybe not a nickname he’d take kindly to!
