Rallying for the cause

If you didn’t watch Saturday’s game and only knew about the Nationals’ 9-4 win over the Padres via the play-by-play text that pops up on MLB Gameday, you probably wondered how in the world the home team scored six runs in the bottom of the seventh.

The non-descriptive account of that inning shows the Nats recording only two hits (both singles), drawing two walks, getting hit by a pitch and hitting into three fielder’s choices.

That was the highlight of the game? Yes. Yes, it was.

“There was just a lot of good stuff there,” manager Blake Butera said. “I loved the at-bats. But I also just loved the way we played the game. That’s what we want our identity to be.”
