Thoughts on a rare road series loss
There's no shame in losing two of three at Tampa Bay, but the Nationals did miss an opportunity to make a real statement this weekend
If you’re going to lose a road series for the first time in more than a month, this was probably the one to lose.
The Rays have baseball’s best home record at 26-10, and they’re generally one of the better teams in the sport as well, with a good pitching staff, a pesky lineup and solid fundamentals. There’s no shame in dropping two of three at Tropicana Field.
But the Nationals did have a real shot at winning today’s series finale, taking a 3-1 lead into the bottom of the sixth before ultimately losing 4-3. And so that does make this feel like a bit of a squandered opportunity for a team that was seeking its fifth consecutive series win overall and sixth consecutive on the road.
Some thoughts about the weekend as a whole and today in particular …
