Game Thread: Nats vs. Orioles in Baltimore
It's the first of two between D.C. and Baltimore as both clubs wrap up the exhibition schedule
BALTIMORE – Hello from Camden Yards, where the Nationals and Orioles are set to open a home-and-home series to wrap up the exhibition season. This is part of a new, multi-year agreement between the two teams, with one game each year here and one game in D.C. And though it looks nothing like Florida, it’s actually almost as warm today as it was for much of the last week in West Palm Beach. (That will not be the case in Chicago come Thursday, by the way.)
The Nationals are approaching these games a little differently than they have in the past. Rather than send members of their big-league rotation to the mound, they decided to keep all of them besides Cade Cavalli in Florida to get one final tune-up in minor-league games. So that means it’ll be Triple-A Rochester lefty Mitchell Parker taking the mound to start today’s game, then a smorgasbord of relievers each throwing one inning Monday afternoon.
All the position players, however, are here, so we’ll get a representative sampling of them both days, many of them hoping to get hot just in time for Opening Day after a sluggish spring training.
Only the home team’s television crew will be broadcasting these games, so it’s MASN only today and then Nationals.TV only Monday. Charlie Slowes and Dave Jageler have both games on the radio, though, with 980 AM the place to listen this afternoon ...

Two more strikeouts for Parker in the third, giving him SEVEN! already today. But he also served up another homer, this one to Gunnar Henderson. His slider is producing a bunch of swings and misses, but it's also getting hammered when he leaves it up in the zone.
The Jorbit Vivas for Sean Paul Linan trade is now official. To clear space on the 40-man roster, the Nationals have designated Rule 5 Draft pick Griff McGarry for assignment. Any club that claims him would have to keep him on their MLB roster all season, adhering to the same Rule 5 regulations.
